Final interview FAQs

Rithm’s final interview is the last, and most important, step in our admissions process. This is where we’ll get to spend one-on-one time together to get to know more about who you are, what you want out of your career, and where your technical skills are at. In this post, we’ll walk you through what to expect in our final interview and provide answers to some frequently asked questions. Read carefully to make sure you’re confident and prepared before beginning your interview!

How do I start the interview process?

Reach out to admissions@rithmschool.com for an initial chat with our admissions team. After the call, once you’re feeling ready, take our interview assessment. To prepare for this assessment, we’d like you to go through our JavaScript Fundamentals Course, and while not mandatory, we highly recommend using our practice problems. If you can get through 100% of the practice problems, you will be ready for the assessment!  After you’ve passed the assessment, we’ll reach out to schedule your final interview.

When can I interview?

After you’ve completed the 30-minute timed coding challenge, we will send you a link to schedule your technical interview. Interviews are typically scheduled Tuesday through Friday at 9:15 am or 1:15 pm Pacific. If you are unavailable at those times, we will work with you to find a time that works for both you and your interviewer.

Generally, you will be allowed to interview for any upcoming cohort up until 4 weeks prior to the start date, depending on available seats. Interviews will not grant admission to a cohort that begins less than 4 weeks away from the interview date. However, you can interview as early as you want for future cohorts.

When should I schedule my interview?

You can find the official last day to interview for your cohort here. However, please note that our cohorts often fill weeks or months before these deadlines, so there is always a possibility that the cohort will be filled before the date listed on our site.

If you have passed our interview assessment and are prepared technically, we recommend you schedule your interview as soon as possible. If you’re not at that level yet, don’t rush to schedule! Take the time to study and prepare first, then schedule your interview when you’re ready. Our Slack community is a great place to get more practice in and ask questions as you go.

What to expect

Our interviews are up to 2 hours long and consist of two parts: a behavioral interview with our Director of Career Services, then a technical interview with a member of our teaching team. Learn what to expect and how to prepare for each section of your interview below:

When do I find out if I passed?

We typically get back to candidates within 1-2 business days of interviewing.

I didn’t pass the interview. What do I do now?

No worries, not everyone passes the interview on the first go! We will give you detailed feedback on how to prepare for your next interview, as well as a timeline for when we would like to see you come in again.

You will have up to two attempts for your behavioral interview and up to three attempts for your technical interview. You will not have to repeat sections of the interview that you have already passed.

Our interview process is guided by our commitment to ethical admissions, which means that we set the bar high to ensure that you’re truly ready to succeed in our program. Our goal is to see every student we admit thrive both during our program and after they’ve graduated. If you’re not quite ready in time for the cohort you were hoping for, don’t get discouraged—our cohorts are spaced only 1-2 months apart, which means you’ll have more time to build your skills before you start.

I passed the interview! What’s next?

Congratulations! We will send you an enrollment offer, as well as an invoice for your tuition deposit. About a month before your cohort begins, we will also send you our pre-work, which consists of ~80 hours of problem-solving and web development projects that are required to be completed before the start of the cohort.

Once all the prework is completed and the deposit is paid, you are officially in. Welcome to Rithm School!
